Sunday 7 July
Cobra Bar @ The Tote
Andrew Tuttle + Brain Drain + Automating
$7, 7pm.

Sunday 7 July, a night of probable intemperate coldness, icy winds, and general winter malaise. Rather than hibernating, trying to download pirated movies and generally wallowing in your own self-pity, swing via the alternate universe tiki bar surrounds of The Cobra Bar (upstairs at The Tote) to listen to three outstanding Australian solo producers/performers.

Andrew Tuttle, from Brisbane, Australia; creates sounds that explore the relationship between instrumentation, structure and genre within electronics and acoustics. Tuttle, usually solo, although occasionally in semi-regular and ad-hoc collaboration, creates a synthesis of electronic/acoustic instrumentation and genre, and improvisation/composition performed on acoustic guitar, computer, synthesiser, banjo, harmonica, electronics, voice, etc. Andrew Tuttle is currently touring his debut EP 4064 http://www.andrewtuttle.com.au/

Buffalo, NY via Sydney via Brisbane via Melbourne globetrotter Brain Drain returns to Melbourne for a rare southern hemisphere performance. Brain Drain's beautiful minimalist-via-pop pieces straddle the divide between structure and improvisation, often revelling in the contrast between the two. Adam McFillin's primarily guitar-driven pieces centre around creating both mood and rhythm through loops and using this repetition as a foundation on which to improvise. http://braindrain.bandcamp.com/

Automating is Sasha from Melbourne, Australia. Sifting through the sonic waste and discarded technology left by the roadside of a world speeding too fast into the future. Field recordings, found sound, tape manipulation, noise and effects units. Automating is currently pursuing live and studio created binaural soundscapes and archaic tape based drones.
